Dr. Walter Bumphus is resigning from Murray State University’s Board of Regents.

Chair Stephen Williams read a letter from Bumphus to the board Friday, in which he stated time commitments as his reason for his resignation.

Bumphus said his professional responsibilities as president and CEO of the American Association of Community Colleges has resulted in “an increased workload focused on developing and nurturing a relationship with the Trump administration.”

Bumphus will officially be on the board until a replacement is named. Bumphus holds a bachelor’s degree in speech communication and a master’s degree in guidance and counseling from Murray State University.

He got his Ph.D. in higher education administration from the Community College Leadership Program at The University of Texas at Austin. He was named a distinguished graduate from both Murray State and University of Texas at Austin in 1992.
