Did Murray-Calloway Border Affect the Parks Referendum Failure?

Murray Calloway County Parks and Recreation / Facebook

Of the nearly 12,000 Calloway County citizens that voted on the failed Parks Referendum yesterday the greatest amount of opposition came from the county.

The referendum proposed a 5 cent tax on every $100 of assessed property value. Excluding absentee ballots, 72 percent of county residents voted against the proposed tax. Only 55 percent of city residents voted the proposal down.

Parks Director Tab Brockman said the park board will have to make some tough decisions this winter, stating that the problems discussed while campaigning for the tax are still in need of funds.
