The owner of an electrical contracting company in Murray is entering the race for Calloway County Judge Executive in 2018.
James Gallimore - a Democrat - filed Friday for his first run for public office. Gallimore said he’s been eyeing the position for a year. He said he wants to help city and county officials work together and combine resources. He said if elected he would promote millennial involvement and combat opioid addiction.
“It needs to be eradicated,” Gallimore said. “We could get some places opened up to where people can have some counselling or do something to break this addiction that’s killing this community.”
Gallimore said he wants the Calloway County Public Library to become a community focal point with high speed internet access and programs for computer literacy and resume building. He said he would also make Calloway County a more attractive area for younger generations by supporting the technology industry.
Republican Fifth District State Representative Kenny Imes is running for the seat next year as well as Deputy Judge Executive and former Calloway County Sheriff Bill Marcum, who recently changed his party affiliation to Republican.
