Datebook: June 24 - Pinta Island Tortoise Goes Extinct One Year Ago

Lonesome George was the last known Pinta Island tortoise, a subspecies of Galapagos tortoise. He was believed to be more than 100 years old at the time of death, young for a tortoise. The Museums of Historic Hopkinsville-Christian County offer a special display of antique radios in the Pennyroyal Treasures exhibit. The tabletop radios, from a local private collection, will be on display at the Pennyroyal Area Museum through the end of the month. The museum is open Tuesday through Friday from 9 to 5 and Saturday from 10 to 3. See more at museumsofhopkinsville.org.

Murray State University is researching an arthritis remedy for dogs. Dogs accepted into the study receive free monthly bloodwork, physical exams, arthritic analysis, and a natural medication during the one month study in July. If you have a moderately arthritic dog that weighs between 35 and 70 pounds, call or text (502) 220-7070 to register your dog. 

There's a State Approved Boating Safety Class at Eddy Creek Marina Resort this Saturday. The free course runs from 9 to 4 with a lunch break. The class emphasizes principles of safe operation. Call 502-460-6495 to register.
