Datebook: December 19 - A Christmas Carol Published 169 Years Ago

Charles Dickens captured the Christmas spirit on this day 1843 with the publication of A Christmas Carol, the story of Ebenezer Scrooge. It was an instant critical success, William Makepeace Thackeray called the book, "a national benefit to every man or woman who reads it." My favorite: Athenaeum declared it, "a dainty dish to set before a King."

Adsmore House and Gardens in Princeton is decorated for the holiday season through December 29.  Journey back in time to Christmas Eve 1901 as the Smith-Garrett family celebrates their first Christmas in their new home.  Regular hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 11 to 4.  See more at adsmore.org.

The 2013 Murray Half Marathon offers a 13-week training program for all interested runners and walkers.  The program is designed to help runners of any skill and experience level train to run or walk the half marathon, the half marathon relay, or the 5K race.  Participants meet Saturdays at 10AM.  To register, call 270-762-1348.

Kala Dunn is a native of Princeton, Ky. She’s a 2006 graduate of the Interlochen Arts Academy with a concentration in flute performance and a 2010 graduate of Murray State University with a B.M. in piano performance. She lives in Hamlin, Ky.

He's served in a variety of roles over the years: as News Director March 2016-September 2019 and previously as the New Media & Promotions Coordinator beginning in 2011. Prior to that, he was a graduate and undergraduate assistant. He is currently the host of the international music show Imported on Sunday nights at 10 p.m.
