Datebook: August 23 - Gene Kelly Turns 100
Gene Kelly was a dancer and singer best known for Singin' in the Rain and An American in Paris. In the 1940s and 50s, he transformed Hollywood musicals and brought ballet to the big screen. In 1999, the American Film Institute named Kelly the 15th Greatest Male Star of All Time. We'll dance to that!

Tomorrow night offers three art exhibit receptions on the Murray State University campus. Artwork by Benjamin Rogers, David Carpenter, and Esther Randall is displayed in the Clara M. Eagle Gallery, and artwork by Cody Arnall is displayed in the Curris Center Gallery. The receptions are from 6 to 8 in both locations. Learn more at murraystate.edu/artgallery.
The second annual Fast and Furriest 5K and Fun Run is Saturday at Paducah’s Noble Park. The event benefits Project Hope No-Kill Animal Shelter. Dogs are welcome to attend the race but must wear a muzzle. Race-day registration starts at 6AM and the race begins at 7. Find details on Facebook.
The Ice House Art Center in Mayfield offers a Gourd-mobile Derby Workshop on Saturday from 10 to noon. Kids can build racecars from gourds, then race them during the Gourd Patch Arts Festival on September 15th. Reserve a space by calling 247-6971.
