Cost to Demolish Downtown Paducah Building Increasing

LANCE DENNEE / WKMS

The Paducah City Commission is set to vote tonight on a cost increase to a downtown demolition project.

Director of Planning Steve Ervin says it will cost $158,000 dollars to build a closure wall to stabilize the building adjacent to 432 Broadway. The city bought the condemned building at that address for $1 last July.

The Kentucky Department for Local Government awarded the city a $500,000  federal Community Development Block Grant last month to aid in demolishing the building, which requires a $125,000 dollar city match. Ervin says the demolition contract runs through February, but could take longer. Once demolition is complete, he says barricades will be moved to open Broadway somewhat.
