Clarksville City Council Approves $32 million Construction Project
By Carrie Pond
Clarksville, TN – In a 9-3 vote last night, the Clarksville City Council approved a $32 million project to build a full marina at Fairgrounds Park. The Clarksville Leaf-Chronicle reports the project includes plans for an arboretum, a 3 thousand seat amphitheater and a water park. The marina, which will be built and financed by a private developer, will include a dry-stack facility and boat slips. City Mayor Johnny Piper plans to pay for the rest of the project by refinancing the city's debt over the next 25 years to prevent raising taxes. Construction will begin next year, with the first phase of the project slated for completion in October 2010.
