Barkley Regional Airport has canceled about 14 flights due to the disruption at theChicago En Route Center in Aurora, Ill.

Airport manager Richard Roof says Federal Aviation Administration air traffic controllers should be able to restore about 90 percent of flight activity today and today’s flights to and from Barkley are running smoothly.

Roof explains the financial impact for Barkley airport.

“There are missed landing fees, the three car rental vendors will have missed rentals, there’ll be a minor effect on taxicab operations,” Roof said. “It’s estimated, nationwide, the total cost of this outage will be easily in excess of two hundred million dollars.”

The FAA has released a statement sayingsome of the new communication equipment has been installed and workers have to lay as much as 10 miles of new cable. Roof says services from the damaged center should be fully restored by October 13.
