Calloway Jobless Rates Second Lowest in State

By Angela Hatton

Murray, KY – Despite high unemployment rates across the Commonwealth, Calloway County continues to have the second-lowest jobless rate in the state. November data released today shows Calloway County unemployment at 7-point-5 percent. Murray Calloway County Economic Development Director Mark Manning says the county has been fortunate. Manning says major companies that have factories in the area have consolidated.

"If those companies were consolidating work out of Murray into other locations then our unemployment would be as bad or worse than anyone else. But because apparently those companies are very satisfied here and feel these locations are very productive then they're consolidating work into this community."

Statewide jobless rates dropped slightly from 10.6 percent in October to 10.1 percent in November. Jefferson County had the lower rate. Trigg County had the fifth highest unemployment rate statewide. That number, 15.9 percent, hasn't changed since October.
