Calloway County Airport Receives $2M to Repave Tarmac

Calloway County’s airport is receiving close to 2 million dollars in federal money to upgrade its runway.

The Federal Aviation Administration will give the grant to The Murray Calloway County Airport Board.

Board chairman Jim Fain says the much needed refurbishments include repaving more than 6,000 square feet of tarmac and new navigational equipment.

“We are going to put LED lights in the runway lights," said Fain. "They’re less expensive and last longer and use less electricity. Clearing some trees to do a better entrance approach, we’re clearing about five acres of trees.”

Fain says the 55-year-old airfield is vital to commerce in Murray and Calloway. He says a host of companies use it daily for corporate visits and employee transportation.
