Nashville, TN – Governor Phil Bredesen says the West Tennessee congressional seat being vacated by Representative John Tanner won't be an automatic win for Democrats. The Democratic governor says the 8th Congressional District has not been immune from a statewide Republican trend. Bredesen says he considers state Senator Roy Herron, who left the governor's race to run for Tanner's seat, to be a strong candidate along with other Democrats who are considering joining the race.
