#BeBold for Murray State Jazz Orchestra's Crowdfunding Campaign

Matt Markgraf, WKMS

The Murray State Jazz Orchestra is working to highlight its student performers and historic year in 2014 by creating a CD recording of the songs they played at the Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago. Murray State Jazz aficionados can find more information about helping this project at raceralumni.com/bebold. Murray State's Interim Director of Development Tina Bernot and Director of Jazz Studies Dr. Todd Hill stop by Sounds Good to talk to Kate Lochte about the project.

Crowdfunding  is a relatively new venture for special projects at Murray State University. Tina Bernot says its a popular tool for raising project focused funds. "The MSU Jazz Orchestra is an incredible example of the amazing success here on campus," she says.

The product will be a CD of music performed by the Murray State Jazz Orchestra. In 2014, they performed for the Kentucky Music Educators Conference in Louisville, then the Elmhurst College Jazz Festival where they were awarded for Outstanding Big Band Performance and 13 students won best Individual Soloist awards. Then, the orchestra performed at what Dr. Hill calls the "world series" of educational instrumental music programs - the Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago, where they were one of two college jazz bands performing for 17,000 instrumental music teachers from 40 countries and all 50 states.

Their goal is to raise $7,500 by March 30. As of this writing, they have raised nearly $3,300. To give and join the #BeBold campaign, visit raceralumni.com/bebold
