Frankfort, KY – Both Democratic and Republican Senate candidates are cashing in on the longtime basketball rivalry between number one NCAA seeds University of Kentucky and Duke. While Lieutenant Governor Dan Mongiardo points out his primary opponent Attorney General Jack Conway is a Duke graduate, Secretary of State Trey Grayson is running internet ads saying his main opponent Dr. Rand Paul received his medical degree from Duke.
Both UK graduates Mongiardo and Grayson are trying to capitalize on basketball fans' hatred for Duke after a 1992 Regional Finals loss.
Jack Conway tells the Paducah Sun candidates should be talking about more important matters like creating jobs. Rand Paul thinks it's funny his ties to Duke have been brought up by Grayson, who originally attended Harvard University.
