Baker Declines Police Chief Job

By Carrie Pond

Paducah, KY – The man who was set to take over as Paducah's police chief has rescinded his acceptance. Chuck Baker provided a letter to City Manager Jim Zumwalt yesterday, citing the city's inability to offer sufficient compensation and guarantees for the position. In the agreement, Baker would have received a salary of $96,000 in addition to up to $10,000 for moving expenses. Baker is currently the Patrol Division Commander for the Commerce City, Colorado Police Department. Zumwalt says he is "extremely disappointed." Sandy Joslyn will continue serving as Interim Police Chief. City Public Information Officer Pam Spencer says commissioners will likely discuss how to continue the search at their regularly scheduled meeting tomorrow.
