Rotary International President-Elect John Germ is in Murray Thursday for the ribbon-cutting of the newly constructed amphitheater in Central Park and for a dinner event in the evening. Jayne Crisp says in her 23 years as a Rotarian the local chapter has never before been honored by an upcoming president. On Sounds Good, Tracy Ross speaks with Crisp about the visit.
Crisp says Germ being from relatively close-by in Chattanooga helped bring him to Murray. She says the public is invited to the ribbon cutting ceremony at Noon. The amphitheater is designed to be a multi-purpose space for dramas, musicals, presentations and outdoor music. The Badgett Playhouse is inaugurating the space with a series of productions starting Tuesday.
More than $160,000 dollars were raised for the space. After the ceremony, work will continue in landscaping, building restrooms and sound system projects for the space.
At the dinner function (already sold out), Crisp says Germ will likely address reaching out to young potential Rotarians and recently retired individuals. She says his number one goal is to complete the eradication of polio in the world, adding that Pakistan and Afghanistan are the only two countries where polio is considered endemic.
The Rotary club meets Thursdays at noon at the Murray Banquet Center. Guests are welcome to come. Proposals for membership are brought through the board before an orientation and induction ceremony.
