Sandy Sasso, visual artist and retired art educator, has an upcoming show featuring paintings and drawings at the Ruth Baggett Gallery in Paducah. She speaks with Austin Carter on Sounds Good about her creative process and her display.
Sasso says the show features much of her recent work, having recently retired. Much of it is based on plants, and observation is a key component of her process.
The artist chooses more commonplace plants like broomsedge or Hohnson grass for their simplicity. Sasso says she enjoys the contrasting beauty of subjects most people don’t typically think about.
Speaking on a recent trend -cutting art education programs- Sasso says those programs benefit students by teaching skills like creativity and critical thinking, and are important parts of a child’s education.
Sasso’s show opens Saturday, Feb. 13 from 5-8 p.m.
