Italian pianist and crossover musician Virginia Guastella speaks with Tracy Ross on Sounds Good about composing music and her tour in the United States.
Guastella began studying music at the age of four after her mother found her using a radiator as a musical instrument. By the age of 9 she had composed her first work, a blues piece.
She says she likes the music of Italian composer Ennio Morricone as well as the music of Procol Harum. Guastella says she enjoys progressive music because it doesn’t limit her to a specific genre while composing.
At her show at Maiden Alley Cinema, Guastella performed her compositions to old silent Italian movies. She says she likes to combine older cinema with newer music to mix artistic perceptions.
