David Carson, the acclaimed graphic designer who created Ray Gun magazine will be giving a lecture at the Paducah School of Art & Design. The so called father of grunge typography talks about how the evolution of computer dependency has risked a loss of an emotional “almost human element" in graphic art.
“I think we will see a return to recognizing design as a language,” David Carson
The utilization of design as a language can be incredibly powerful, yet laziness and a reliance on computer technology has removed the human element, when that happens the design suffers according to Carson. Carson believes a homogenization stemming from similarities in programs and software utilized by most designers today has taken hold of much of the art we see today. But, the graphic artist has faith that things will come full circle and once again, a more independent creativity will flourish from those passionate about their work.
