[Audio] 2016 MSU Summer Art Workshop Has Focus on Technology

designed by Jacob Melvin

For more than 20 years, Murray State University Department of Art & Design's Summer Art Workshop has brought in high school students from around the country to participate in a week-long experience learning from various artistic mediums. On Sounds Good, Tracy Ross speaks with Nicole Hand Bryant about this year's event, which has a focus on STEAM (STEM with an 'A' for Art) incorporating technology into art projects.

Some of the topics in this year's STEAM focus include a drawing class where the work is scanned and turned into animation, a sculpture class with a 3D printing element and stop-motion animation. Hand-Bryant says exposure to the various types of technology available are important for students today.

40 students are the maximum for the class. All skill levels are welcome. May 13 is the deadline to register online. The workshop is June 12 through 17.
