Arant Selected As MSU Provost and VP For Academic Affairs

Northeastern State University

Murray State University has selected Dr. Mark Arant to serve as its next Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Arant currently serves in the same position at Oklahoma’s Northeastern State University. Murray State President Bob Davies says the applicants for the position were impressive but Arant is the ideal fit.

He brings a great sense of focus to our academic efforts, he has done an amazing job creating the master plan for his current university, Northeastern State. The other thing that impressed me with Dr. Arant was his openness, his ability to communicate, his ability to engage others…” Davies said.

In addition to his service at Northeastern State University, Arant has held positions at the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith and the University of Louisiana at Monroe. He earned his Ph.D. in organic chemistry from the University of Alabama and his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Louisiana Tech University.

MSU President Bob Davies said Arant has " a proven track record in strategic planning, enrollment growth and community engagement." But  above all, Davies said his "commitment to student success will complement our vision of being the best student-centered university in America.”

Arant will begin his work on July 1st, pending approval from Murray State’s Board of Regents. Murray State has been without a permanent Provost since July of 2015. Dr. Renae Duncan has served as Acting Provost since April of 2016.
