APSU and MSU Crime Rates

By Angela Hatton

Clarksville, TN – Tennessee's Austin Peay State University has seen significant increases in some kinds of campus crime in the past year. For instance, burglaries increased from two in 2007 to 23 in 2008. APSU officials credit some of the numbers to better crime reporting. University spokesperson Bill Persinger says students also need to be careful not to leave their personal belongings unattended. Murray State University Director of Public Safety David DeVoss says crime reports for 2008 are not yet available. However, MSU's most recent reports show increases in some areas, including Theft and Drug Violations, but decreases over the last three years in Burglary and Alcohol Violations.
