Absentee Ballot Deadline Approaching for GOP Caucus

Kentucky Republicans have until the end of the week to request an absentee ballot for the March 5th presidential caucus. Ballot applications must be requested by this Friday and can be found on the state GOP website.

Since this is the first caucus in Kentucky in more than three decades, Warren County Caucus Chairman David Graham says turnout is a concern. "I think we just had statewide right around 30% in our gubernatorial election. And sad to say, I think we'd be tickled to have 30% turn out at the caucus. But that's why we're getting out the word as best we can to make sure everyone's aware of it," he says.

Applications for absentee ballots can be requested through this Friday, and ballots must be returned to the Kentucky Republican Party by March 4th. Absentee voting is allowed for several reasons including advanced age, a medical condition, or being absent from the county on the day of the caucus.

The last time that Kentucky held a presidential caucus was in 1984 when both the Republican and Democratic parties participated. This year, Kentucky Democrats will pick their presidential nominee in the regular May primary.
