TN Reps Pledge to Elect GOP leaders

Nashville, TN – All 50 Republicans in the Tennessee House of Representatives have signed a pledge to elect a slate of GOP leaders when the legislative session convenes in January. The letter released Tuesday signals a likely end to Democratic House Speaker Jimmy Naifeh's record 18-year hold on the top post in the House. Naifeh had often been able to persuade a handful of Republicans to vote for him when Democrats held a majority. Republicans won a one-vote advantage in the General Assembly's lower chamber in last week's election.

Clarksville Home Prices Increase

Clarksville, TN – While overall national home prices and sales are down, there are pockets in the U.S. that are doing well, including military towns. In Clarksville, Tenn., next to Fort
Campbell, the average sales prices for single-family homes increased about 6 percent in the second quarter of 2008.

Career Center Planned for Johnson Control Employees

Cadiz, KY – The federal government is trying to ease the pain of approximately 600 Johnson Control Incorporated, employees who will lose their jobs when the company's Cadiz plant closes next summer. The U.S. Department of Labor will fund a temporary career center specifically for displaced JCI workers through. The center will offer residents adult education opportunities, specialized assessment for job placement and assistance with filing unemployment claims. Information and location hours will be available next week.

Riley's Food Market

Murray, KY – Recently, MSU students from India planted a tree honoring Mahatma Gandhi on the land at the corner of 16th and Main in Murray. On this site once stood a family grocery store. Next, Martin Tracy of Murray recalls when he and his family traded with Riley's Food Market and became a part of its community of customers. He enlisted the help of the store's proprietors' Thelma Riley Bailey and her husband Jack Bailey of Murray in this remembrance.
