Primary Bill Clears Senate

Frankfort, KY – Legislation to move the filing deadline from January to April for Kentucky candidates has cleared the Senate. The measure pushes back the deadline from the last Tuesday in January to the last Tuesday in April. It also moves the presidential primary from May to August. Senator Julian Carrol passed on the vote.

Heading towards a new KY road plan

Frankfort, KY – For several days, legislative leaders have tried to pin down details on a new six year road plan. It determines, in large part, which roads get built and how much money gets spent. Kentucky College students at the mercy of CPE meeting

Murray, KY – Kentucky college students are the mercy of the Council on Post Secondary Education, which meets today in Frankfort. That group will determine how much the state's public Colleges and Universities can raise tuition for the next school year. Students are asking decision makers to hold the line on further tuition hikes, while school presidents see them as a necessary evil to make up for a loss in state funding. Kentucky Public Radio's Lisa Autry has this report from Bowling Green.

MSU student organization celebrates first Sudanese program graduate

Murray, KY – Elizabeth Awok isn't like most Southern Sudanese women, whose traditional roles revolve around their homes and children. Some of them might receive basic education in refugee camps or in the country's few schools, but daily chores and early marriage often hinder their attendance - or eliminate it completely. Instead, Awok has just received her high school diploma, and she did so thanks to the Women's Educational Empowerment Project for Southern Sudan, otherwise known as WEEP.
