Board to Choose Commissioner Friday

Frankfort, KY – The Kentucky Board of Education plans to choose a candidate for state education commissioner this Friday. The board goes into closed session to discuss a specific candidate for the position. Members had whittled down the candidate list to four finalists. Kentucky has been without a full-time education commissioner since Jon Draud retired earlier this year due to health reasons.

Commentary: "I don't want to be amused to death"

MURRAY, KY – We have a well-entertained electorate.

There has never been so many people with so many ways to amuse themselves than Americans today. John Lennon is quoted as saying that life is what happens when you're busy making other plans. Sometimes I think life is what happens when we're busy being entertained.

LBL Bridge Designs Unveiled

Cadiz, KY – Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear today unveiled the design for two long-planned bridges in Land Between the Lakes. The new Kentucky and Barkley Lakes bridges will cost an estimated 178 million-dollars. The new four lane bridges will also include a sidewalk and bike path. Officials are set to begin work in 2011. These bridges replace the current structures which are nearly eighty years old. The entire US 68 corridor reconstruction, including the bridges project, is expected to be complete by late 2017.

Man Hit by Train; Lives

Paducah, KY – A P&L train hit a man early this morning in the Reidland area. 27-year-old Bradley Hess of Missouri was apparently laying on the edge of the railroad tracks behind Papa John's Pizza on Clarks River Road. He was hit by the oncoming train, which was moving at 25-30 miles per hour. The train's engineer immediately called 911. Hess was admitted to Western Baptist Hospital with head injuries.
