Elkton Man Arrested for Growing Marijuana

Todd Co., KY – Kentucky State Police have arrested 56-year-old Kerry Jones of Elkton for
growing marijuana around his house. KSP officers spotted 65 marijuana plants during a helicopter search Thursday morning. Police also found a firearm inside Jones' house. Jones is charged with cultivating five or more marijuana plants with a firearm enhancement. Jones is being held at the Todd County Jail.

Army: 4 soldiers killed in Colo. helicopter crash

Leadville, CO – The Army says four Fort Campbell soldiers died after a Black Hawk helicopter crashed on Colorado's second-highest mountain. The helicopter crashed Wednesday afternoon near the summit of Mount Massive. The Army's Special Operations Command at Fort Bragg, N.C., announced the deaths yesterday.

Clarksville's Kraft Street Closes Monday

Clarksville, TN – Construction work will close down Kraft Street in Clarksville for seven days starting Monday. According to the Tennessee Department of Transportation, ongoing reconstruction of the intersection at North Second Street and Riverside Drive will close down portions of Kraft Street and North Second. Drivers will be detoured to College Street.

4 Graves County Students Busted for Drinking on Bus

Mayfield, KY – Four Graves County students may face charges for allegedly drinking alcohol on the way to school. 18-year-old Gateway Academy student Steven Owens and 18-year-old Graves County High School student Warren Holloway were arrested Wednesday morning after reports of students drinking on the school bus. Two juveniles were also detained and released to their parents. All four students begin in-school detention today. Owens and Holloway are expected in Graves County District Court on September 23rd.

Grayson Hires Campaign Manager

Frankfort, KY – Kentucky Secretary of State and Republican U.S. Senate candidate Trey Grayson has hired congressional spokesman Nate Hodson to be his campaign manager. Grayson announced Hodson's hiring yesterday. Hodson had been serving as spokesman for U.S. Representative Brett Guthrie and previously served as finance director for Senator Mitch McConnell's 2008 re-election campaign. He also managed Grayson's campaign when he was re-elected secretary of state in 2007.

July Unemployment Down Slightly to 10.7%

Nashville, TN – State officials say Tennessee's July unemployment rate dropped slightly from the previous month. Labor Commissioner James Neeley says last month's rate was 10.7 percent, down one-tenth of a percentage point from the June rate of 10.8. Neeley says the lower rate is mostly a result of discouraged workers dropping out of the work force. Tennessee continued to top the national rate of 9.4 percent for July.

TVA Hikes Rate 8%, Cuts Fuel Charge

Knoxville, TN – The Tennessee Valley Authority board has voted to raise the basic power rate eight percent effective October 1st. The increase in the basic rate will add $5.52 monthly to the average household's bill. Officials, however, expect to cut the fuel adjustment charge for October, resulting in a savings of nearly $2 for the average residential bill - a reduction from $66.61 to $64.77.

Playhouse presents "Dearly Departed"

Murray, Ky. – Despite efforts to pull themselves together for their father's funeral, the Turpins' problems overshadow the solemn occasion. Mayhem ensues. The show is "Dearly Departed," and it opens Friday at Playhouse in the Park. Jacque Day explores this comedy of a family reunited by death with director Stacey Smith and Playhouse executive director Lisa Cope, who has a little surprise of her own.
