Trigg Rape Case set for April 2010

Cadiz, KY – A Trigg County Circuit Judge has set the trial date for five of the men charged with raping a sixteen-year-old girl last Memorial Day weekend. The young men appeared in a Cadiz courtroom yesterday afternoon. All five are charged with raping the teen girl while she was heavily intoxicated. Judge CA "Woody" Woodall set the men's court date for April 19th 2010. During last year's preliminary hearing, the group said the sex was consensual. Two others involved in the case have not yet been indicted.

Riverside Downs Closes

Henderson, KY – A longtime horse training facility in Henderson has been shut down. Riverside Downs trainer John Hancock says uncertainty surrounding the closure of neighboring Ellis Park is a factor in his decision to close the facility. Ellis Park is set to close its doors for good following this year's meet.

APSU Asks State to Condemn Property

Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University is trying to acquire over an acre of vacant property on College Street by asking the state to condemn it. The school has made attempts in the last four years to buy it at its appraised market value and says it has exhausted all options. The latest appraisal for the property was $447,000. However, the property owner is reportedly asking $1.5 million. The school says it wants to use the commercial-zoned lot for parking and green space.

Murray Man Indicted on Meth Charges in Paris

Paris, TN – A Murray man has been arrested after a Henry County Tennessee grand jury indicted him on meth-related charges Monday. Five charges against fifty-year-old Jay Lee Burton include possession with intent to deliver, promotion of methamphetamine manufacturing, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Burton was originally arrested in Henry County in 2006. A fugitive warrant for his arrest recently brought him back to Tennessee.

Paul to Decide KY Senate Candidacy by August

Bowling Green, KY – Bowling Green physician Rand Paul says he may enter the Republican primary race for U.S. Senate even if incumbent Jim Bunning doesn't withdraw. Paul, the son of former Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul, says he'll decide by August 20th whether he'll jump in. So far, Paul has formed an exploratory committee and has raised $100,000. Bunning has maintained he's staying in the race for what would be his third term in the Senate. Paul says he's unconvinced and is afraid of Bunning dropping out at the last minute.
