No Pitch for Sunday Beer Sales Proposal Today

Clarksville, TN – A proposal to end the limits on Sunday beer sales in Clarksville won't be discussed at today's City Council meeting. Proposal-sponsor Councilwoman Deanna McLaughlin says she wants to gather more information before attempting to sell the idea to the Finance and Administration Committee. The current ordinance prohibits beer sales between 3:00 am and noon on Sundays. Estimates project the city would net $81,000 annually if the limits were lifted.

USEC Projects Longer PGD Life

Paducah, KY – Energy company USEC says the operational life of the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion plant will go beyond its scheduled end in 2012. Officials say the decision to stop construction of a new uranium enrichment plant near Portsmouth, Ohio is the reason the Paducah plant will see longer use. USEC has stopped building the new plant because the Department of Energy denied backing a $2 billion loan.

Lyon County Fuels for Schools

Lyon County – A Lyon County program has received $1 million in stimulus dollars for a renewable energy project promoting the development of biofuels from wood. Lyon County Fuels for Schools is among 30 wood-to-energy grants and biomass utilization projects funded in 14 states. The project is expected to create new jobs in the region over the next 18 months.

Final Defendant in Currin Case

Mayfield, KY – A jury has been selected in for the trial of the final defendant in the Jessica Currin murder case. Lynn Austin Leech faces evidence tampering and perjury charges. Currin's burned body was found behind a Mayfield middle school in 2000. Six other people have already been tried or pled guilty in actions related to the murder. Leech is being tried in Graves County Circuit Court.
