Metropolis' First Chain Drug Store

Metropolis, IL – Metropolis, Illinois will get its first official chain drug store tomorrow, with Walgreens opening its doors at 8:00 am. The 13,000 square-foot building sits at the corner of 10th and Market Streets. It will be the city's second largest retailer, just a bit smaller than Big John's supermarket. The new Walgreens has hired at least 12 local people to work at the store and is one of some 7,000 nationwide.

Head of League of Cities Announces Resignation

Lexington, KY – The head of the Kentucky League of Cities has announced that she plans to resign effective January 1. Sylvia Lovely, who has worked for the organization for 22 years, says she will pursue other opportunities.

Baseball Tourney Coming to Brooks Stadium

Paducah, KY – The next TranSouth Baseball Tournament will be held at Paducah's Brooks Stadium. The tournament will bring in six collegiate baseballs teams to play over four days. The tournament will be held May 9th through the 13th of next year. The city anticipates the economic impact of the event to be around a quarter million dollars. This comes after the Ohio Valley Conference moved its tournament earlier this year to Jackson, Tennessee.
