Reidland High Bingo Funds Missing

Paducah, KY – More than $100,000 may be missing from charitable bingo funds that were to benefit Reidland High School. McCracken school board attorney Gorman Bradley says the money is unaccounted for in an account maintained by the school's booster club. Auditors discovered the discrepancy yesterday during a routine inquiry. The Paducah Sun reports a large number of checks were made out to cash' and little expense documentation has been found. The Kentucky Department of Charitable Gaming is investigating the discrepancy.

Wastewater System in Mayfield Gets Update

Mayfield, KY – Mayfield City officials expect to implement a nearly one million dollar grant to update their wastewater system early next year. Mayfield Electric and Water General Superintendent Marty Ivey says the project will update eight-thousand feet of pipes and manholes. Ivey says this will reduce contamination in the system from storm water drain-off. Funding comes from a federal stimulus grant. Ivey says the work will create temporary construction jobs and result in a more efficient system.

KY 80 Opening Ceremony

Calloway County, KY – Kentucky 80 from Mayfield to Murray is scheduled to open next week. Governor Steve Beshear is expected to attend a long-awaited ribbon cutting ceremony next Wednesday. Calloway County Judge-Executive Larry Elkins says the new road will be drivable, but road crews will be putting on finishing touches through the end of the year.

Grand Jury Indicts Pot Cultivator

Paducah, KY – A federal grand jury has indicted a Cadiz man on criminal drug charges. 52-year-old Danny Wade Snyder was arrested in August for cultivating 200 marijuana plants. If convicted, Snyder could face a maximum 40 prison sentence and a two million dollar fine. He will be arraigned in Paducah's U-S District November 10.

Dancing Quiznos mascot fined after mistaken suicide attempt

Hopkinsville, KY – Jeremy Johnson said he was dancing on the top rail of a bridge in Hopkinsville, but drivers below thought he was going to jump and called police. Johnson's job is to advertise Quiznos by dancing on the roadside near the Pennyrile Parkway while holding a sign for the sub shop. The Kentucky New Era quoted Johnson saying he was taking a break Saturday and was rolling a cigarette when drivers honked and waved at him.

Johnson said he lighted his cigarette and started dancing on the rail in response.
