Executive Inn Violates Building Codes

Paducah, KY – Paducah's building inspector says there is evidence people may be living in the Executive Inn. Joel Scarbrough recently evaluated the vacant hotel and sent five safety and building code violations to owner Bhupinder Singh on Friday. Broken glass and fallen debris are among some of the cited hazards. The Paducah Sun reports Singh could face $500-per-day fines if the violations are not soon corrected. He has three days to contact city officials after he receives the warning via certified mail.

4 Charged in Calloway Co. Death

Murray, KY – Four Calloway County residents have been charged in the death of 38-year-old Carl Douglas McGowan. McGowan's body was located after family members reported him missing Sunday.

28-year-old Michael Lynch of Murray has been charged with 1st Degree Assault, while 29-year-old Timothy Adams, 18-year-old Tiffany Adams, and 19-year-old Jessica Johnson, all of Murray, have been charged with complicity in the assault.

Kentucky's Budget Deficit Grows

Frankfort, KY – Kentucky's projected budget deficit for the current fiscal year just got bigger. Governor Steve Beshear has been looking for ways to trim around 80-million dollars from the state budget this fiscal year, but now it looks like he may have to double that. The Consensus Forecasting Group, chaired by Larry Lynch, is predicting a deficit of almost 161-million dollars.

"Look at your sales tax receipts and income tax receipts. Withholding has been very bad. Nothing much has turned around. Nothing much has improved."

Husbands Road Closure

Paducah, KY – Husbands Road near the Paducah city limits is closed today for roadwork. The Kentucky Transportation Department says P and L Railroad is working to improve a rail crossing located between Hovekamp Road and Bridge Street. The road will be open to local access only on each side of the closure. Motorists traveling that area will have a detour. About 2,000 vehicles use Husbands Road each day.

Elementary Teacher Finalist for State Award

Mayfield, KY – A Grave County elementary teacher is among nine semifinalists for the 2010 Kentucky Teacher of the Year award. Central Elementary School teacher Phyllis Ray and two others are competing in the elementary category. Following classroom visits and personal interviews, the winners in all three grade categories will be announced October 23 in Frankfort.
