Power Plant Waste Generates Controversy

Joppa, IL – An established coal-fired power plant in Joppa, Illinois is getting a new waste disposal facility. But some environmental agencies in the state worry the guidelines set up to monitor the coal ash and chemical wastes aren't comprehensive enough. They say the facility could cause long-term damage to the area. Angela Hatton has details.

Details on Upcoming McCracken Co High School

Paducah, KY – The McCracken County Board of Education has picked an architectural design for its upcoming consolidated high school. The new high school's features include a second-floor media center with presentation rooms and panoramic views, a greenhouse which adjoins science classrooms, two gyms and an auditorium. McCracken County students and community members have also chosen a new mascot. They will be the McCracken County Mustangs when the school opens fall 2012.

Fort Campbell Return Ceremony

Fort Campbell, KY – Fort Campbell soldiers from an aviation brigade will finish their deployment to Afghanistan just in time for the holidays. A Sunday Ceremony recognizes the return of the 159th Combat Aviation Brigade to Fort Campbell. Many of the soldiers from the division will be home for the holidays this year with plans to start deploying early next year. Fort Campbell Spokesperson Cathy Gramling says nearly 1,200 soldiers from Fort Campbell are in Iraq over the holidays and about 100 more are in Afghanistan.

Another Area Booster Club Embezzlement

Clarksville, TN – Police in Clarksville are searching for Kenwood High School Booster Club President Wanda Watkins, after the club's bank account came up $19,000 short. Police have charged the 59-year-old with multiple counts of forging signatures and stealing money from the account. The Clarksville Leaf-Chronicle reports this is the second time this year an embezzlement case has occurred at a Clarksville high school.
