Democrats Tout Unions to KY Business executives

Frankfort, KY – Two Kentucky Democratic candidates for U.S. Senate are talking up the virtues of labor unions, even going so far as to tout them at a meeting of the Kentucky Association of Manufacturers. Lieutenant Governor Daniel Mongiardo and Attorney General Conway, who are running for the seat being vacated by Senator Jim Bunning, want the support of Kentucky's politically powerful labor movement going into the this year's elections.

Clarksville I-24 exit possible

Clarksville, TN – Clarksville residents may soon have a new exit from I-24 to access the Gateway Medical Center. The exit is among the Transportation Department's top legislative priorities. The Clarksville Leaf Chronicle reports State senator Tim Barnes requested the project to lessen traffic at exit four and provide quicker access to the hospital. A TDOT consultant will next evaluate the need for a new exit. If approved, right of way acquisition could start in 2011.

TEK Task Force Meets

Nicholasville, KY – Tomorrow is the first meeting of a group charged with improving Kentucky's education system. The Governor's Transforming Education in Kentucky (or TEK) Task Force will be led by State Education Commissioner Terry Holliday and Governor Steve Beshear. The 31-member group is made up of legislators and education representatives around the state. The TEK Task Force plans to submit recommendations for strengthening the K-12 system by the end of 2010.

Jobs Saved Says Quarterly Report

Frankfort, KY – The Kentucky Governor's Office says more than ten thousand jobs have been created or saved due to state grants and stimulus money. The Kentucky Quarterly Stimulus Report released today shows those jobs have been saved since October of last year. So far about 800-million of the state 3 billion dollar stimulus allotment has been spent.

Homeless Count Expected to Be Higher in Kentucky

Louisville, KY – The Kentucky statewide count of homeless people of all ages is expected to show an increase this year. According to Homeless and Housing Coalition of Kentucky Executive Director Penny Young the so-called "point-in-time" count helps determine how much funding will be available for homeless assistance in the state.

"The purpose of the point-in-time count is to identify the number and characteristics of our homeless persons and families who may be doubled up in other homes," she said.
