IL DUI Conviction Changes

Springfield, IL – Drivers convicted of DUI's in Illinois now have a new sentencing option. Judges may choose to give Illinois drivers who have fewer than three DUI convictions a car equipped with a breathalyzer device instead of completely suspending their license. Hopkins County Suicide

Madisonville – A 28-year-old Evansville, Indiana man committed suicide during a traffic stop early this morning in Hopkins County. Around 4:40 AM, Kentucky State Trooper Mitch Hampton pulled over a vehicle on the Pennyrile Parkway, suspecting DUI. As Trooper Hampton attempted to establish communication with the driver, he heard what he believed to be a gunshot. The Hopkins County Coroner's Office pronounced the victim, Michael D. Black, dead at the scene. The incident remains under investigation by Kentucky State Police.

Southern Illinois – The embattled governor's announcement of his pick of Roland Burris, the 71-year-old Southern Illinois native, to fill the U.S. senate seat vacated by President-Elect Barack Obama, left many slack-jawed. This includes Dr. Pamella Gronemeyer, a member of the branch of Progressive Democrats of America from Burris' home turf in the Illinois 19th Congressional District.

Minors on the Road

Frankfort, KY – A Kentucky lawmaker wants to require adult supervision of children under the age of 14 who collect money for civic or other groups along roadsides. Democratic Representative Jeff Greer says he got the idea to draft the legislation when he saw unsupervised minors conducting a roadside fundraiser in his community.
