"One Call" on Cell Phones

Murray, KY – Calloway county officials continue to work out the kinks in the new "One Call" emergency alert phone system. County Judge Executive Larry Elkins says most residents with listed numbers are on the system, but unlisted numbers and cell phones aren't. The city and county instituted the One Call system earlier this year to provide emergency information during severe weather.

We've had really some good feedback from people who called and thanked us for alerting them of impending danger.

Airport Receives Funds, But Not Enough

Clarksville, TN – Clarksville's Outlaw Field has received stimulus package funds to assist in their bid to build a new airport. The state appropriated three-hundred-fifty-thousand dollars to help construct a new terminal to replace the outdated facility. The Clarksville Leaf-Chronicle reports airport officials had hoped for one million dollars from the state. They say the reduced appropriation means slower progress on the project. Estimated costs for the terminal have so far topped five million dollars.

WKY Schools Honored

Frankfort, KY – Four western Kentucky schools have been honored for working to close achievement gaps between students during the 2008-2009 school year. Graves County's Sedalia and Symsonia elementary schools, Benton Middle School in Marshall County and Trigg County High School were selected for significant progress toward closing gaps between students of different genders, ethnic groups, income levels and special needs.

Beshear on Taxes

Bowling Green, KY – Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear says Kentucky House Leaders should keep open the last two weeks in June. Beshear says he's not decided yet to call a special legislative session, but he's prepared to if necessary. On Friday, the Governor receives a new budget forecast which he expects to show a deficit near one-billion dollars. Beshear says raising taxes would not be on a special session agenda.
