New Regional EM Directors

Frankfort, KY – Kentucky's Emergency Management Director John Heltzel has appointed new regional directors for the Purchase and Pennyrile areas. Benton resident Mark Garland starts work as emergency management director for the Purchase District counties. Vicki Martin of Mexico, Kentucky, in Crittenden County will serve Region two in the Pennyrile.

Guns in Bars Veto Overridden

Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Senate has now joined the House in overriding Governor Phil Bredesen's veto of a bill to allow residents to carry handguns in bars and restaurants that serve alcohol. The Senate voted 21-9 against the veto today, a day after the House voted 69-27. Before the governor's veto, the measure was to take effect June 1, but will now be effective July 14. Currently, 37 states have similar legislation.

The "Saxy" Boots Randolph

Western Kentucky – Eighty-two years ago this week, Boots Randolph, called by some the original Rock and Roll saxophonist, was born in Paducah, Kentucky. Through his six-decade career, artists from Elvis Presley to REO Speedwagon sought Boots out for his singing tenor sax sound. Jacque Day takes a look at his role in creating the "Nashville Sound" and his relationship with the King of Rock and Roll.

Former APSU Instructor Charged with Sexual Assault

Clarkesville, TN – A former Austin Peay State University fitness instructor faces sexual assault charges. 38-year-old Rene Gonzalez is accused of using his position of authority to get a 17-year-old female to perform oral sex. Austin Peay says Gonzalez's work contract with the school expired May 8 and the alleged sexual encounter did not occur on campus. The alleged victim was not an APSU student and had no affiliation with the university. Gonzalez is being held on a $100,000 bond.
