Mayfield, KY – Northbound lanes of the Purchase Parkway outside of Mayfield have reopened after a fiery tanker truck crash that killed the driver. State police dispatcher Marie Hart says the crash occurred around 5 AM this morning when the tanker ran off a Parkway bridge, landing on U.S. Highway 45. She says the tanker was empty but caught fire on impact. Graves County Coroner Phillip McClain identifies the driver as 42-year-old Timmy Byas of LaCenter. He says no one else was in the tanker. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
Murray, KY – A New Concord woman faces another year in prison for the vehicular death of a Murray man. Judge Dennis Foust sentenced Jamie Mills to five years in prison yesterday on charges of reckless homicide. Mills and Prosecutors reached a plea agreement that leaves her with one year left to serve. Police originally charged Mills with second degree manslaughter after she allegedly caused a fatal automobile accident in 2007 that killed Steve McReynolds.
Fort Campbell, KY – A planned detonation at Fort Campbell went off just before noon today without many noticing. The detonation consisted of three consecutive explosions that were part of a training exercise. Fort Campbell had previously warned residents of surrounding communities that the detonation could possibly cause damage to their homes. Public Affairs Officer Cathy Gramling says the explosions were neither felt nor heard at the offices on base.
