Ferry Gets Repairs

Marion, KY – A stimulus grant will go to help repair a western Kentucky ferry. Cave In Rock Ferry transports around 500 vehicles a day between Crittenden County and Cave-in-Rock, Illinois. Governor Steve Beshear has announced ninety-thousand dollars to repair the Kentucky landing. The existing landing will be elevated to prevent erosion problems.

Paducah Officials Consider Buying Executive Inn

Paducah, KY – Paducah city officials are discussing buying the mortgage on the Executive Inn rather than wait for a lawsuit. Commissioner Gerald Watkins says negotiations will only be held if current owner Bhupinder Singh is not a part of them. According to Watkins, the city's buyout offer would likely be less than the value of the mortgage, which with liens and interest stands at over four and a half million dollars.

Paducah Landmark Jeremiah's Closes

Paducah, KY – Longtime Paducah landmark Jeremiah's Restaurant on Broadway has closed its doors for good. The 31-year-old pub-style restaurant and bar was a fixture of the downtown nightlife scene and an integral part of the local music scene for years. The Paducah Sun reports the building is for sale or lease after Thomas Jennings, who leased Jeremiah's, handed the keys over to the building's owners last Thursday citing financial reasons.

Former Fancy Farm Coach Pleads Not Guilty

Mayfield, KY – The former Fancy Farm Elementary volunteer-assistant basketball coach charged with almost 50 counts of sexual abuse pled not guilty in court yesterday. 46-year-old Donald Richard is accused of sexually abusing several minors under 14 years old. He was arrested last month on 20 counts of sodomy, 20 counts of sexual abuse, and eight counts of portraying a minor in a sexual performance. Richard will be back in Graves Circuit Court for a pre-trial conference August 17.

No Seatbelt Leads to Multiple Charges

Murray, KY – A man wanted on meth-related charges was apprehended yesterday in Murray after a Kentucky State Police trooper pulled him over for not wearing a seatbelt. 18-year-old Kenton Doran was arrested on multiple charges, including: carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession of a firearm by a felon, two controlled substance possession charges, possession of drug paraphernalia, and failure to wear a seatbelt.
