Police Chief Pool Reopened

Paducah, KY – The Paducah City Commission has decided to interview two additional police chief candidates after nominee Charles Baker rescinded his acceptance Sunday. At a workshop session last night, the commission resolved to interview two candidates and add those to the previous four position finalists. Officials will invite a selected number to Paducah for a second interview. Sandy Joslyn will continue to serve as interim police chief.

Derby Day Breakfast Charges

Frankfort, KY – Tight budget times are leading Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear to do something never done before - charge for the Derby Day Breakfast at the State Capitol. Governor Beshear says the state can save thousand of dollars by not offering the usual free, buffet-style Derby Day Breakfast. Instead, breakfast menu items will cost one dollar apiece. Also gone are the invitations, large tents and the Derby Train.

Cadiz Restaurant Tax

Cadiz, KY – The Cadiz-Trigg County Tourism Commission is researching a restaurant tax to help bring in more revenue for the commission. Executive Director Bill Stevens says cities with fewer than three thousand residents like Cadiz qualify for a three percent restaurant tax under Kentucky law. Currently, the commission brings in 130,000 dollars annually from hotel taxes. City officials say tourism is county's biggest industry. Stevens is hoping the restaurant tax will generate enough revenue to fund outreach efforts to grow the industry.
