Frankfort, KY – In the rush to donate to Haitian relief funds, Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway warns against scams. Conway cautions donators to beware of direct phone call and email solicitations. He says the safest way to donate is through large, well-known, organizations and to use online resources that validate charities.

Murray Robbery

Murray, KY – Murray Police are investigating a weekend armed robbery and assault. 27-year-old Apollow Tolmie received minor injuries after three masked men broke into his home and assaulted him Friday night. The men left his 17th Street home with cash and a cell phone. Murray Police continue to search for suspects.

Free park access for veterans

Frankfort, KY – State representative Charles Siler says Kentucky's state parks should reach out to commonwealth's disabled veterans. The southeastern Kentucky republican is suggesting they be given free access to park facilities three days every year.

"Essentially this would provide that any hundred-percent disabled veterans would be provided three days per year access to the state park, camp ground lodges and facilities."

Siler says Kentucky has about 44-hundred vets who would be eligible for the benefit.

National civil rights veteran delivers King Holiday Cherokee Park keynote

Aurora, Ky. – More than 100 people turned out to Cherokee State Park in Aurora on Monday's Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday to observe the opening of the historic dining room building. Situated near Kenlake, Cherokee was a resort opened in 1951 to serve African-Americans during segregation. Attendees included original park-goers, several local officials and state representative Will Coursey. The keynote speaker was civil rights-era activist Colia LaFayette Clark.
