Acupuncture Bill to Step Up Regulation

Murray, KY – A bill pending in the Kentucky general assembly would require all people practicing acupuncture in the commonwealth to be professionally licensed. Dr. Rangsima Collins owns Western Kentucky Acupuncture Clinic. She is one of only about fifty professionals offering acupuncture in Kentucky. Collins says some people go through one training class and are considered qualified, but she says that isn't enough.

Military Tax Exemption Expected to Be Good for Region

Hopkinsville, KY – January 1 marked the first day for the Kentucky military tax exemption. The Kentucky General Assembly passed the measure that excludes soldiers and their families from income taxes last year to encourage more soldiers to live in Kentucky. Hopkinsville-Christian County Chamber of Commerce Interim Director Carter Hendricks says a five year marketing campaign has already brought more Fort Campbell soldiers to the area.

I-24 Maintenance Work

Paducah, KY – Electrical crews are working on a section of I-24 in Paducah. Kentucky Transportation Cabinet spokesman Keith Todd says workers will be performing maintenance on the TRIPS message board system until Wednesday afternoon. The crews will be stationed near Exit 3, but officials say they may need to set up work zones up to mile marker nine. Motorists should be aware when driving through these areas.

Frankfort, KY – In the rush to donate to Haitian relief funds, Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway warns against scams. Conway cautions donators to beware of direct phone call and email solicitations. He says the safest way to donate is through large, well-known, organizations and to use online resources that validate charities.

Murray Robbery

Murray, KY – Murray Police are investigating a weekend armed robbery and assault. 27-year-old Apollow Tolmie received minor injuries after three masked men broke into his home and assaulted him Friday night. The men left his 17th Street home with cash and a cell phone. Murray Police continue to search for suspects.
