The halt is to allow a load test, part of construction work on the new Eggner's Ferry Bridge. For the test, the contractor has placed several hundred tons of weight on top of a piling for the Lagoon Bridge. An explosive charge will be detonated which will cause the load to bounce. Data gathered from sensors on the piling will be used in the design of footers for the main bridge piers.
