WKCTC Asks Paducah for More Money for Art School

West Kentucky Community and Technical College President Dr. Barbara Veazey has asked the Paducah City Commission for more money to fund the college’s art school. The city has committed $225,000 over three years to the Paducah School of Art expansion in LowerTown. Veazey asked for another two years of funding, at $75,000 each year to help ensure the project is completed.

WKCTC Employees Fired for Reporting Inaccurate Test Scores

Two employees involved in reporting inaccurate test scores at West Kentucky Community and Technical College have been fired. The Paducah Sun reports Shannon Ogan and Catherine Hasty received termination letters from WKCTC citing violations of ethical conduct guidelines. An audit of the Adult Basic Education Test found inconsistent markings on tests, which resulted in an extra $137 thousand dollars from Kentucky Adult Education. WKCTC has since returned the extra money to KEA.

Complex Provides Housing, Educational Programs for Students

Close to 50 students and their children have taken up residence in the Scholar House of Paducah. The new 48-unit low-income apartment complex provides housing for unemployed and underemployed Kentuckians working on their post-secondary education. It’s a partnership between Paducah Junior College foundation, Murray State University, Daymar College and Mid-Continent University.

WKCTC Named to Finalist List for Aspen Prize

West Kentucky Community and Technical College in Paducah is once again a finalist for the Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence. Last year the school placed in the top five finalists, and shared a portion of the million dollar prize fund. The finalists are selected from a pool of one thousand community colleges in the country. Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College is also a finalist for the prize, which will be awarded in Washington, D.C. in March.

David Leonardis on Howard Finster: American Visionary Folk Artist

The Paducah School of Art opens the exhibition “Howard Finster Vision House Touring Exhibit” at the Clemens Fine Arts Center Gallery at West Kentucky Community and Technical College this evening. The show’s curator, David Leonardis owns a Chicago gallery with contemporary, pop and folk art, photography and late 19^th and early 20^th century French lithographs.
