AHCA Delaying TN Budgets

Henry County Mayor Brent Greer said several county budgets are being delayed because departments are having difficulty adjusting to new policies prompted by the Affordable Health Care Act.

Greer said the issue stems from departments having to make final rulings on which employees will be considered full time. In Henry County, a 28-hour work week represents full-time status.

This is the finale weekend of The World's Biggest Fish Fry in Paris, Tennessee. It's a longstanding tradition involving events that started months ago, culminating this week. Police Providing Security Support to Paris Schools

Local police are providing security for schools in the Paris Special School District while administrators review and update safety plans. PSSD Director Mike Brown says Paris Police and Henry County Sheriff officers will be in each of the three schools in the district.

Large Number of 2010 Henry County Property Taxes Outstanding

Property taxes owed for 2010 are delinquent on more than 1,400 pieces of Henry County property. The Post-Intelligencer reports Clerk and Master Mary Burns says that number is four times higher than previous years. Burns is requesting an additional $14,000 to pay postage for summons notices for delinquent property owners.

Henry County Begins Texting-tip Program at High School

Henry County, Tenn., school officials begin a new texting tip program this school year. According to the Paris Post-Intelligencer, the sheriff’s office will give the Henry County High School resource officer a cell phone so students can text him with tips about crime. Henry County Sheriff Monte Belew says young people will communicate more readily in a text than they will face-to-face. Belew says that means students can quickly alert the resource officer if someone brings a weapon or drugs to school or if they overhear someone planning to harm students or faculty.

Paris Tennessee Approves Budget

Henry County, Tennessee commissioners have approved their 2012-2013 budget. The Paris Post Intelligencer says eleven county commissioners voted last night in favor of the $170 million spending plan.

Henry County Wheel Tax Drop

Henry County, Tennessee, has reduced its county wheel tax by more than half two years ahead of schedule. The yearly tax went down from $34 to $15.50 this month with the start of the fiscal year.

Henry County Schools Approved for Storm Safe Grants

Federal and state organizations have approved Henry County Tennessee Schools for grants to retrofit three buildings to be tornado safe spaces. Schools board officials will meet this summer with County Mayor Brent Greer and architects to discuss the $3.75 million project. Director of County Schools Sam Miles estimates the county’s contribution will be about 4-hundred thousand dollars. Miles says construction will start next summer.
