Heating Assistance Increased for Kentuckians

Frankfort, KY – Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear says the state will have more money this winter to help low-income Kentuckians heat their homes. He says the federal government had already doubled the state's share to 68-million dollars, when word came of another nine-percent increase, to 75-million dollars.

House Speaker

Frankfort, KY – One of the most competitive Kentucky races this fall has yet to be decided. House Speaker Jody Richards is fighting to hang on to the leadership post he's held since 1994. His Challenger is former Attorney General Greg Stumbo. Democrats will caucus in January to choose their leaders. Democratic State Representative Robin Webb concedes she's not looking forward to the contest.

There's tension right now and it's going to be interesting, it's going to put a lot of strain on our legislative structure.

Paducah Mayoral Race Closer Than Expected

Paducah, KY – Less than 50 votes decide the Paducah mayoral election last night. NewsTalk 94.3 WKYX reported that a 48 vote margin re-elected Bill Paxton to office. Paxton led the final tally with 5,079 votes to challenger Robert Coleman's 5,031. Coleman, however, led the race until the very end and says he will contest the results. Paxton says he didn't expect such a close race.
