Trigg Jobless Rates

Frankfort, KY – Unemployment levels in Trigg County are some of the worst in the state. The Kentucky Department of Labor reports Trigg County's jobless rate reached nearly 16-percent in January, a tie for the state's third highest. Recent plants layoffs, including American National Rubber, Transcraft Corporation, and Johnson Controls Incorporated have caused a twelve percent spike in jobless rates in the past year. Unemployment in the entire Pennyrile region is hovering at around eleven percent.

West Kentucky Debris Removal

Murray, KY – Kentucky Transportation engineers estimate a third of Western Kentucky's roadways have been cleared of ice storm debris. Crews are covering twelve counties in Highway District One. This week engineers expect to surpass a total nine-hundred-thousand cubic yards of material picked up.

"Green" Plant Groundbreaking

Clarksville, TN – Over two hundred people turned out yesterday for a ceremonial groundbreaking in Clarksville, Tennessee. Hemlock Semiconductor begins construction soon on a 1-point-2 billion dollar plant. The Clarksville Leaf-Chronicle reports the subsidiary of Dow Corning will produce solar panel components. Hemlock officials say the plant will provide nearly five-hundred jobs when the first phase of construction is complete in 2012. Officials say the ripple effects could create as many as three-hundred-thousand jobs.
