US Senate candidate Jack Conway talks about campaign issues

Frankfort, KY – The official filing deadline to run for Office in Kentucky is Tuesday. One of the most hotly contested seats this go-around is that of retiring U.S. Senator Jim Bunning. So far 10 people are vying for Bunning's seat on both sides of the aisle. In the democratic race the two front runners are Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway and Lieutenant Governor Daniel Mongiardo. Chad Lampe speaks with Conway about this race, and stance on key issues.

Storm Possible on Thursday

Paducah, KY – The National Weather Service's Hazardous weather outlook reports a possible winter storm this week. Wind directions will play a key role. Meteorologist Alex Dodd says though the storm has a chance of missing the area completely, if it does hit, it should be nothing like last year's ice storm.

"Despite the fact that this is very close to the anniversary of the ice storm a year ago, we're not looking at any freezing rain. If we were to see any, it would be very trace amounts, minimal, inconsequential."

Mushroom Dealers Take Plea Deals

Paducah, KY – The two women who sold the mushrooms McCracken County teen Caleb Barnett was on when he was fatally shot by a homeowner pleaded guilty in Circuit Court Friday. Kelsey Burchett and Shaina Skinner took a plea deal to trafficking charges. Burchett will serve 3 years in prison, while Skinner will see two and a half. The Paducah Sun reports Caleb Barnett was apparently hallucinating when he broke into a neighbor's home last summer and was shot.

Session's Week Four

Frankfort, KY – Now that Kentucky's legislative leaders have rejected Gov. Beshear's budget plan based on casino gambling, they're looking for other revenue sources. Senate President David Williams says a major overhaul of the state's tax system may not be the answer.

"The answer to our problems is not in just getting more money," Williams says. "The answer to our problems is to hold our expenditure level down, that was already growing beyond the growth in our income growth when the economy was healthy."

Ohio River Flood Warning

Metropolis, IL – The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for the Ohio River following days of heavy rain. The river was just over 34 feet at Brookport Dam last night. It's expected to reach flood stage at 37 feet before midnight tomorrow and continue rising to nearly 40 feet by Saturday. The levels forecast minor flooding.

The Effort to Resurrect Lone Oak

Paducah, KY – Former Commissioner Roger Dew wants the city of Loan Oak to re-incorporate after voters dissolved it back in 2008. Dew tells the Paducah Sun he plans to circulate a petition aimed at bringing back a bigger and better Loan Oak by incorporating a larger part of the community. Dew says the city would then have a larger tax base and lower property tax rates. He's holding a meeting at 6:30 tomorrow night at the Loan Oak First Baptist Church.
