Road Conditions in Western KY

Murray, KY – Kentucky Transportation Cabinet crews worked through the night to plow away drifting and blowing snow that hampered road clearing efforts. A line of high wind and heavey snow that swept across the region creating near-blizzard conditions in some counties just after dark left many highways that had been cleared of snow and ice with a new coat of about an inch of snow in less than an hour. Blowing snow that drifted across roadways in numerous places created additional driving hazards.

Dark Leaf Bill Fails

Frankfort, KY – Legislation to tax moist smokeless tobacco the same way as all other smokeless products has failed to pass out of committee. Sponsor Tommy Thompson claimed changing the taxing from a per unit assessment to basing the tax on value, simply restores fairness.'

"Now Kentucky is the only state in the united states that taxes moist snuff on a unit basis," he says.

Bredesen: Either OK Cable Tax or Find Alternative

Nashville, TN – Governor Phil Bredesen is challenging lawmakers to either approve his plan to eliminate a tax exemption for cable bills or to find another way to restore funding for higher education and save 200 state employees' jobs. The Democratic governor said in an interview with The Associated Press on Tuesday that: "You've got to move beyond saying 'I don't like this,' and into 'I don't like this, and here's how we plan to fix it."'
