Rain closes trails at LBL

Grand Rivers, KY – Excessive rainfall and rising lake levels have closed trails at Land Between the Lakes. Sections of the biking and hiking trails are impassable due to high lake levels. Turkey Bay Off-Highway Vehicle Area is also closed, and some trails at Wrangler's Campground are impassable. Campgrounds remain open. LBL officials warn visitors to use extreme caution if they encounter water over roads, boat ramps or trails.

Prosecution Rests in Green Case

Paducah, KY – Federal prosecutors have rested their case in the trial of former Fort Campbell soldier Steven Green. Green is charged in the rape and murder of an Iraqi teen and the shotgun deaths of her family south of Baghdad. Prosecutors called two witnesses against the former private first class this morning, six days into the Paducah trial. After the prosecution case ended, U.S. District Judge Thomas Russell told jurors he had a legal matter related to the trial to research before the trial would proceed.

Cracker Barrel Reopening

Cadiz, KY –
The Cadiz Cracker Barrel reopens tomorrow after a fire closed the restaurant last week. Nineteen-year-old employee Justin Cook allegedly set several small fires at the restaurant. He faces second-degree arson charges.

Fifth Possible Swine Flu Case

Fort Knox, KY – Fort Knox has closed its child care center after health officials found a probable case of swine flu. This is the fifth possible case in Kentucky, including one near Bowling Green. A spokesman says child care has been suspended at the U.S. Army post in central Kentucky through at least Wednesday after a child with flu-like symptoms attended the center last week. The child has not been hospitalized. The state has one confirmed case of the swine flu involving a Warren County woman who is hospitalized in Georgia.
