Kentucky Won't Join Legal Challenge

Frankfort, KY – Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway says the state will not join a constitutional challenge of the recently passed federal healthcare bill. House minority leader Jeff Hoover, speaking for a group of Republican legislators, had asked Conway to join other states attorneys general to challenge the bill. In a statement, Conway says the challenges are without merit, and says the action would not be a good use of taxpayer resources when the General Assembly is considering budget cuts.

Soldier Group Comes Home

Fort Campbell, KY – A group of Fort Campbell soldiers return from deployment Friday. Over 130 soldiers from 218th Military Police Company arrive back with a ceremony at the base Friday afternoon. They are returning from a one-year deployment to Iraq.

Kennedy Signs Contract Extension

Murray, KY – Murray State University Men's Basketball Head Coach Billy Kennedy has signed a contract extension to stay on for four more years. Athletic Director Allen Ward says Kennedy will see an increase in his base salary, currently $140,000 a year. The extension comes after the Racers won 31 games this season, setting a new Ohio Valley Conference record for the most wins in a single season.

Jobs Cut, Dining Halls Closed as Soldiers Deploy

Fort Campbell, KY – Fort Campbell is closing dining halls and possibly some gyms as the post looks to save money while soldiers are deployed in a tight budget year. Army installations worldwide are facing reduced funding this year as the military tries to hold down non-war spending even as total defense spending rises. The Army curtailed plans for deeper cuts earlier this year after hearing concerns from Congress and soldiers that services for military families might suffer.
